The Dash Egg Cooker: Where Have You Been All Our Lives?
We LOVE eggs in our household. We recently found the Dash Egg Cooker and fell in love . We eat eggs nearly every day for breakfast. We use hardboiled eggs in our daily lunch salads. And, we even sometimes sneak eggs in as dinner (gotta love Fritttatas).
So, I’m a little embarrassed to admit that we didn’t know anything about the Dash Egg Cooker until recently. We were hanging out on one of the few Saturdays where we don’t have a million things to do. It happened to be the Saturday before Easter. So, we got all of our egg dyes ready, broke out the wax crayons, and then we started to boil up some eggs. As they say, a watched pot never boils and wow were we watching that pot of eggs. It seemed like ages before the eggs were boiled. We then had to cool them and wait longer before we started decorating. So, as we sat there we figured we had just come up with a genius idea to create a cooker that would boil up a few eggs in a snap.
With our computer in the kitchen, we popped open our browser and started to search for egg cookers. Up popped the Dash Egg Cooker on Amazon. Part of me was disappointed to see that Dash had created the ultimate egg cooker (and a few other companies as well) and part of me was excited to get my hands on one. As I read through the reviews, I started to learn what a cult-like following these egg cookers had gained.
Choosing Which Dash Egg Cooker To Buy
When I looked into buying one of the Dash Egg Cookers, I discovered that there is actually quite a bit of choice. And, while I usually get overwhelmed by too many options and choices, the different options for the Dash seemed to make a lot of sense:
- Color: You can choose from a few modern colors. And, while the color of a kitchen appliance isn’t normally something I care a lot about, the Dash Egg Cooker is a bit different. As I’ve already said, we eat a lot of eggs and with the ease of the Dash we probably will even eat a few more. And, the Dash Egg Cooker is actually pretty cool looking. It looks a lot like something that the Jetsons would have in their kitchen. So, the combination of it looking cool and being a staple kitchen appliance means that the color choice is pretty important. We went with red, as it suits our kitchen decor the best. But, you could also go with white, yellow or a minty green.
- Capacity: This also seems to make sense. You can choose to get a 6 egg Dash Egg Cooker or a 12 egg one. I went with the 12 egg one because we just make so many eggs, but the 6 egg one is perfectly suitable too for most households.
Using The Dash Egg Cooker
The Dash Egg Cooker is actually officially called The Dash Rapid Egg Cooker. That makes it sound easy to use – and, it is..but, again, there are choices. I bought the cooker to make hard boiled eggs, but I was excited to see that you can also make poached eggs in the cooker. The 12 egg cooker has more capacity and we go through enough eggs to make it useful. And, while we tested some of that, first and foremost, I want the cooker to boil better eggs and faster.
You see, the other part of the story I didn’t tell you about for this past Easter is that the eggs came out beautifully…on the outside. The kids were excited to bring them to our family’s house and share them with all. They were proud for everybody to break one open with the brunch. And, while some of the eggs peeled just fine…others were sticky and a mess.
So, the hope with the Dash Egg Cooker was that these eggs would come out fast AND perfect.
Operating the cooker is very simple – place the eggs and follow the simple instructions. The guide that comes along with the cooker will tell you all you need. You can choose whether you want the eggs to be soft boiled, medium boiled or hard boiled.

How Long Does The Dash Egg Cooker Take To Boil Eggs?
This is a great question. And, while we were hoping the eggs would boil faster, we still were able to boil eggs faster than on the stove. The general rule of thumb in the guide that came along with the Dash Rapid Egg Cooker is that soft boiled will take about 6 minutes. Medium boiled should take about 7 minutes. Hard boiled should take about 12 minutes. That’s for 1-6 eggs and a bit longer for more. We found that to be accurate and we have tested it a bunch. We have found that the soft boiled eggs are pretty soft – much more than our liking. But, the best thing to do is just experiment.
How Do The Eggs Boiled In The Dash Egg Cooker Turn Out?
We wanted to save time and get better boiled eggs. And, while we didn’t save quite as much time as we would have liked, we have gotten much better boiled eggs. For us, that has made this a key appliance in our kitchen and we think it should be key in yours as well. You have to experiment a bit because each person has a bit different definition of “soft boiled”. But, we go all hard boiled and they come out beautifully.
